We are offering a special mid to late June tour designed for the beginner storm chaser.  This tour will be limited to 4 or 5 participants and is designed to give an in depth training on storm chasing and storm spotting.  Each participant will be taught how to make their own chase forecast as well.  This tour will be conducted more like a beginners course in storm chasing and storm spotting.  This special tour package will be offered first to past Silverlining Tour participants who know what storm chasing involves, and who are interested in advancing to the next level of chasing or storm spotting on their own.  This tour will begin and end in Denver, Colorado since we want to be positioned closer to the Northern Plains and Midwest.  Even though the Southern Plains tornado season is winding down, the Northern Plains and Midwest are experiencing their peak tornado season during the time period from mid to late June.

    Try making online travel reservations
  2. Each of the five tours is 10 days in length. And we do mean 10. You are not being charged for the days used to travel to and from the base city. We require that all attendees arrive at the meeting city prior to 5pm the day BEFORE the first scheduled day of your tour. We also strongly suggest that you schedule your return flight to leave after NOON the day AFTER your last tour day. This way, we will have some time to get acquainted prior to the tour, you will have some time cushion to allow for flight delays and we will maximize our driving range on the last day of your tour. Example: If you are scheduled for Tour 1 (dates April 26 to May 5), you would arrive at OKC Will Rogers Airport on April 25 sometime during the late afternoon or early evening. You would leave OKC on May 6 after NOON local time. The second tour participants should arrive during the late afternoon or early evening of May 7.
  3. We will have an orientation the evening of your arrival. We will tantalize you with video footage of some of our previous storm chases as we go over important ground rules designed to make the tours a safer and more enjoyable experience. This evening orientation is also a great way to meet with others who share your fascination with severe weather.
  4. We will meet at a large Oklahoma City or Denver hotel (already chosen) on your arrival day. You will receive detailed logistics of your arrival day several weeks prior to the start of your tour.
  5. Tours 1 through 4 costs $2400/person (but only $2300 per person if sharing a hotel room). Tour 5 costs $3200/person (but only $3100 per person if sharing a hotel room). This includes all expenses EXCEPT travel to and from the base city, food and incidentals. It also includes bottled water! It includes, of course, ground transportation during the tour. We require a non-refundable deposit of $600.00 to reserve your slot payable by personal check, cashier's check, or money order. Another $600 is due by April 20, 2001. The balance of $1200 ($1100 per person for hotel room sharing participants) is due on your arrival day.
  6. We will travel in a 15-passenger van with a total of 6 passengers plus two guides up front.
  7. You should plan on bringing a large duffel-type suitcase as well as camcorders, cameras or laptop computers. Please DO NOT bring hard-shell suitcases! Pack ten days' worth of clothing. We will be staying at Motel 8's (when available), some of which have coin-operated washers and dryers. Pack for warm to hot and humid weather. Pack two pairs of jeans and long sleeve shirts. We will occasionally encounter cold weather.
  8. On days when there are no storms expected (we hope those are very few!), we will offer a few optional recreational activities. These will be weather-related whenever possible. Examples from last year: toured the Storm Prediction Center/National Severe Storms Lab. in Norman, OK; toured three National Weather Service Forecast offices; viewed severe tornado damage in Oklahoma; visited the Twister Museum in Wakita, OK. We have also visited Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, and the Badlands (I love South Dakota!).
  9. You will have the opportunity to learn about severe storms in terms you can understand.
  10. Each participant will receive a complete professional-quality video of the tour highlights from all three tours and a Silver Lining Tours t-shirt.
  11. PLEASE read the Frequently Asked Questions section of this web site for more information about our price structure, philosophy and more!
